May 20, 2008 – Two local companies on best startup list

Software maker Surgient and MessageOne, which provides e-mail backup systems, were named to the Red Herring 100, an annual list of the best tech startups in the country.

Editors of the magazine chose the winners from among more than 800 applicants.

The Red Herring list has some high-profile alumni, including Google, eBay and Skype.

Surgient develops software to help companies automate management of their data centers. MessageOne, which recently was acquired by Dell Inc., provides e-mail backup and recovery systems.
